What Is DOT Compliance?

What is DOT Compliance?

Simply put, the term “DOT Compliance” refers to meeting the standards established in each of several US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) areas of oversight. DOT regulations govern almost every aspect of the industry. DOT regularly monitors commercial motor carriers in an effort to ensure each company remains in compliance. A violation of any of the standards set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) can lead to severe and costly consequences.

What is a DOT Number and why do you need it?

A Department of Transportation (DOT) number is a number that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) assigns to a registered commercial vehicle. All carrier vehicles that weigh more than a certain amount, carry specific amounts of passengers or operate between state lines require DOT numbers. In most US states, local DOT requirements also apply.
